Recreation in St Ives Cornwall

Outrigger canoe activity
Take in the Cornish coastline from a whole new perspective and watch the dolphins claim their right as the original surfers by experiencing the exciting sport of outrigger canoeing. This fast-growing sport has its roots buried deep in old traditions from the Pacific islands, and the four-man outriggers are ideal for families or friends. Each member of the crew has a job to do, and your team will need to achieve complete synchronization to make the boat glide through the water at speed.

Climbing activity
South West Cornwall has some of the finest crags in Britain, and when you stay at The Porthminster hotel you're ideally located for some of the best climbing experiences in the region. Climbing destinations can be chosen to suit weather conditions and your ability, and at each session you'll be trained in all aspects of climbing safety before heading out with a qualified and experienced instructor. The experienced instructors can also act as guides for more experienced climbers who are looking to explore Cornwall's crags and push their grades.

Surfing activity
Have you always wondered what it's really like to surf? Then why not learn on one of the most spectacular beaches of Cornwall? All of the surf instructors are qualified beach lifeguards and British Surfing Association surf coaches, and in each surfing lesson you'll learn basic safety skills as well as how to catch the perfect wave.

Intermediate and advanced clients can also receive coaching using their own surfing equipment to improve their technique. Whether you're on holiday or taking part in an adventure training course, sessions can be tailored to your individual requirements.

Coasteering activity
An exciting new way to explore the coastline, coasteering involves traversing the coast by scrambling over rocks, jumping from cliffs and swimming in the sea. Courses can be tailored to all abilities, and each session begins with a safety brief before you head out with your experienced instructor. Personal coasteering equipment (wetsuit, buoyancy aid and helmet) is provided and all instructors carry safety, rescue and first aid equipment.

Each coasteering route has its own individual characteristics, and can last from two to five hours. Find out about yourself, meet the local wildlife, and experience the Cornish coast as you've never experienced it before.
